To get into the top schools in the United States like Harvard or Stanford, applicants need much more than intelligence. This is because there are thousands of applicants to these schools who are all smart and intelligent. These schools also base their decision to admit a student based on other criteria as well, including the grasp of the applicant's other skills not related to academics.

Usually, the admission staff in some of the top art schools considers a number of things about the applicant during the whole application process. With regard to the applicant's portfolio, people in admissions usually look for the technical skills and the creativity of the applicant, his ability to draw from observation, and his use of different media in his creations.

However, apart from these, there are also some other considerations that people in admissions look at, especially during the interview process. During interviews, they look for motivation or the passion of the applicant, his commitment to art, his openness to new ideas and critiques, and the ability to articulate his work.

In getting into the country's top art schools, your artistic talent is not the only basis for acceptance. This is because these art schools base their decisions on other criteria, including your performance during the interview or your attitude with regard to your work. Given this, people who wish to get into some of the country's top art schools should prepare themselves well with regard to these criteria to increase their chances of being accepted.
